The Chairman's Corner

February 2025
January was a busy month for me and CMSA President Steve Weitekamp. We visited 4 chapters including my home chapter of Monterey Bay.
I would like to thank and congratulate Jeanette Homan & her Team for a very informative Military meeting, and thank Jay Casey from the Mid Valley chapter, Roseann Orlebeck and Sally Cardinale from my home Monterey Bay chapter, and Jay Leach from the Central Coast chapter for an outstanding job organizing these well-attended informative chapter meetings.
The enthusiasm of these CMSA leaders is quite apparent and contagious. It was great hearing so many ideas and suggestions being shared among our mover and associate members.
In speaking with mover members around the State, I found we all have been experiencing many challenges recently. Despite the many challenges our industry faces, this brings opportunity. California is one of the largest and most diverse States in the Country, with bustling urban areas to ever- growing suburban areas to rural areas.
However, our Industry is facing challenges that require adaptation and innovation to meet the evolving needs of the moving Public and regulatory requirements.
Diverse business lines will help weather this not-so-great current economic climate and as the economy continues to struggle, trying to find it’s footings will be a challenge. And even with the recent awful natural disasters and wildfires, this may bring opportunities to help our neighbors and gain some business.
For example, many of those affected by the recent fires may need storage solutions for building materials or new furniture that are being purchased. These are just a couple of ideas; I am sure there are many other opportunities if we take the time to find them.
Please know that your CMSA staff and Borad of Directors is working everyday on your behalf. Use your membership to its fullest. Be involved and support your local chapters; attend your chapter meetings and fundraisers.
I believe that it is your membership and active participation in the CMSA that allows us to have a strong voice with positive impacts on the important issues facing the movers of California. I urge your continued support and participation in the CMSA; together we can make a difference.
I hope to see you all at the upcoming 107th annual CMSA Convention. The conventions are one of my favorite events where can gain access to the most current Industry information, share best practices, see old friends and colleagues and make new ones. I attended my first CMSA Convention in May of 1978. Looking forward to seeing you all in beautiful Lake Tahoe on April 22-27.
